Wishing our entire Hemlock family a fun, safe, and sunshine-filled summer. 🌞

The district administrative team has returned a little earlier than planned to our long-time home at 1095 N. Hemlock Rd.
It’s more than just a move, it’s a full-circle moment. Over a decade ago, this building housed our central office during a time when our district was facing a 40-year decline. Facilities were tired, finances strained, and even our school colors lacked identity (just flip through a 2012 yearbook—you’ll see what we mean).
But we rolled up our sleeves. We painted, scrubbed, aligned our K–12 curriculum, and focused on becoming the best version of ourselves—for our kids and community. Along the way, we made tough choices, shifted spaces, and adapted. Our team even found a temporary home in the high school’s north corner when the 200 Wilson space needed to be reclaimed for student growth.
Now, we're proud to say the lights are back on at 1095. Over the summer, we’ll continue settling in and making this space ready to serve our families for years to come.
If you need anything—or just want to say hello—stop by and see us. We’re here, ready to help, and as always, proud to #PullTheSled.

Hemlock Public School District proudly celebrates the outstanding achievements of our robotics team, Gray Matter #5712, during the 2024 season. Their dedication to innovation, teamwork, and excellence has set a remarkable standard for STEM education in our community.
In April 2024, Gray Matter clinched the title of State Champions at the FIRST Robotics Michigan State Championship held at Saginaw Valley State University. Competing among 160 teams, they formed a formidable alliance with Team 27 Rush and Team 51 Wings of Fire, going undefeated in the playoffs and setting multiple high scores, including a championship-winning score of 138 points.
Their exceptional performance earned them the number one ranking in Michigan out of 514 teams, as well as national and global recognition, ranking 21st in the United States and 24th worldwide. Beyond competition, Gray Matter was honored with the prestigious FIRST Impact Award at the Midland District Event, recognizing their commitment to community outreach and the core values of FIRST Robotics.
Under the guidance of mentors Tom and Dana Lockwood, and with the support of our dedicated sponsors, Gray Matter continues to inspire and lead in the field of robotics. Their achievements reflect the strength of our educational programs and the bright future of our students.

Today we highlight Rebekah Harris, our compassionate social worker at Hemlock Elementary, who has been part of the Huskie Pack for three years. Rebekah is a constant source of support for our youngest learners, helping them navigate big feelings, cheering them on, and celebrating their growth as they become confident, kind students. For Rebekah, there is nothing better than witnessing those moments of growth firsthand.
In her role, Rebekah supports student health by addressing emotional, social, and behavioral challenges through SEL lessons, small groups, and individual sessions. She also connects families with valuable community resources and creates a safe, nurturing environment where every student feels seen and supported.
Rebekah believes that mental, emotional, and physical wellness are the foundations of learning. When students feel safe and supported, they are better able to focus, build relationships, and grow both academically and personally. Her approach is rooted in understanding, recognizing that behavior is a form of communication, not defiance. "When students struggle, it is often because they lack the skills to meet expectations, not because they do not want to," she shares.
Rebekah wishes more people understood that her role is not about "fixing" problems, but about building relationships and supporting students through whatever challenges they face. Her commitment to student wellness reflects her deep care for the community she serves.
When Rebekah isn't helping build relationships at Hemlock Elementary, she loves to travel and explore new places. One of her most memorable adventures was living and working in Uganda for four months during school, a time that deepened her appreciation for diverse cultures and global experiences. Thank you, Rebekah, for being a steady source of guidance and support for our students at Hemlock Elementary.
