A Love Story Rooted in Hemlock 🥂 Meet Kathy and Gary Lyvere
As we kick off our second annual celebration of school sweethearts, we’re thrilled to feature Kathy and Gary Lyvere, a couple whose love story began right here at Hemlock High School.
Kathy, Class of 1975, and Gary, Class of 1974, first met through Kathy’s brother, Dave. As Kathy fondly puts it, “Dave brought him home, and I kept him.” Their early days were filled with fun, friendship, and countless memories spent hanging out with friends.
Fast forward 50 years together and nearly 49 years of marriage, Kathy and Gary’s journey is a testament to lasting love and partnership.
From high school sweethearts to lifelong teammates, they embody the spirit of Hemlock’s finest. Let’s celebrate their story and the love that continues to grow from our Huskie roots.

Congratulations to our Hemlock Middle School Student of the Month: Jonathon Kramer.
Jonny is an intelligent, focused, and hardworking student who leads by example in the classroom. Last week, his peers recognized his leadership by electing him as a 5th-grade student council representative—an achievement he should be very proud of.
In Social Studies, Jonny's curiosity shines as he eagerly connects new concepts to what he’s learned elsewhere, always striving to deepen his understanding. Beyond academics, he is a kind and caring friend, making a positive impact on his classmates, teachers, and everyone around him.

🎨 Mrs. Woodcock's talented Art students are creating stunning pieces that showcase their creativity and skill. 🖌️ Art 3 students are diving into black & white Zentangle portraits, using intricate patterns to create value with textures—more intense patterns mean darker values. Some students are even experimenting with pointillism for a unique twist.

🎓 Alumni Spotlight | Gregory Rohde, a proud 1974 Hemlock graduate, embodies perseverance and service. During high school, he participated in baseball and admired the community’s ever-evolving, dynamic nature, appreciating how Hemlock continually grew and avoided the monotony of routine.
After graduation, Gregory pursued an impressive array of certifications and training, including Firefighting, Emergency Medical Technician certification, Hazmat specialization, and counter-terrorism response courses across the U.S. His educational journey highlights his commitment to public safety and emergency response excellence.
Hemlock Public Schools provided the foundational education he needed to chase his ambitions. It’s a testament to the importance of a strong academic base in shaping future careers.
One of his proudest accomplishments since leaving Hemlock is becoming a husband and father, which he holds as the pinnacle of his personal achievements.
Currently, he serves as a Deputy for the Saginaw County Sheriff Department, working in Circuit Court. His responsibilities include ensuring the safety of judges, escorting inmates to court on time, assisting the public, and maintaining courtroom integrity. His role is vital to the justice system and underscores the importance of steadfastness and respect in public service.
His advice to current Huskies? “Never give up on your dreams and goals.”

Frankenmuth's SnowFest is this week. ❄️ Since 2009, Hemlock High School has proudly participated in the renowned Zehnder SnowFest carving competition, showcasing incredible talent and teamwork. This year, our amazing Huskies will be out there carving all day on Thursday, January 30th, and Friday, January 31st.

This past December, K.C. Ling Elementary secretary Mrs. Jacqui Cone received a heartfelt call from Donna, a Hemlock alum, asking if our students could spread a little holiday cheer to her mom, Kathy, a Hemlock resident. Donna requested Christmas cards, and Mrs. Cone got right to work.
After sharing the request with our teachers, Mrs. Cone, along with Principal Gensch and Music Teacher Ms. Hawkins, turned this into something extra special. Not only did students create beautiful Christmas cards, but Ms. Hawkins gathered back-to-back 2nd-grade classes to walk to Ms. Kathy’s home and surprise her with Christmas carols.
The result was pure holiday magic. Ms. Kathy was overwhelmed with joy, moved to tears by the thoughtful gesture, and couldn’t believe our students came to sing just for her. Donna later shared how much this moment meant to her family.
This beautiful act of kindness shows just how amazing our Huskies are. 💌🎶
