After six years of dedicated service as the Varsity Head Volleyball Coach at Hemlock High School, Pete Solo made the difficult decision to step down. “I want to express my deep gratitude to the players, staff, and fans who have supported me throughout my time with Huskie Athletics,” said Salo. “It has been an honor to be part of such a dedicated and talented group. After careful consideration, stepping away is the right decision for me, my family and for the future of the team.” Salo, a Hemlock alum, left the community soon after graduating but it wasn’t long before he returned when his children were born. For the better part of the last twenty years, Salo has coached youth soccer, baseball, softball and football programs in Hemlock. Salo reflects, “It has been a privilege to be able to be part of my kids' sports journey, which has always been a priority of mine. The void of not coaching will be an adjustment but I feel incredibly blessed to have been part of not only my own children’s athletic journeys and that of so many talented Hemlock student-athletes”. The volleyball program has grown in size under Salo’s leadership with an overwhelming number of young girls and women wanting to play at both the middle and high school. Coach Salo’s record is well over .500 and he has coached numerous all-conference and all regional student-athletes while earning several academic all-team state honors. “In my short time leading Huskie Athletics, I have been impressed with how Coach Salo has fostered a culture of teamwork, resilience, and sportsmanship,” says district athletic director Angela Pohl. “His leadership and commitment to the team and the community have made a lasting impact.” Reflecting on his tenure, Coach Salo has expressed his gratitude for support from Huskie Athletics, the school district and the community. “I want to thank all of my past-student athletes for making my coaching journey unforgettable.” Salo remarked that the greatest honor of his career has been watching his student-athletes overcome challenges, celebrating wins, and witnessing their growth into incredible individuals. Coach Salo leaves big shoes to fill but the program's foundation is strong as a result of his loyalty and dedication. A search for a new head coach will begin immediately, with the goal of ensuring the continued success and growth of the team.
