We are thrilled to have had the opportunity to host legislative aides Alexandra Ham and Alanna Chapell from Congressman Dan Kildee's office at Hemlock Public School District. During their visit, we had the pleasure of showcasing the wonderful things happening in our schools and discussing the crucial role that education plays in our community. It was an inspiring conversation, and we are grateful for their time and attention. Thank you, Alexandra and Alanna, for visiting us and for your commitment to improving education in our area. We look forward to continuing to work together to create a brighter future for our students. #Huskietastic #PULLTHESLED #Since1863 #HemlockProud #CommunityEngagement #EducationMatters

It's #TeacherFeature Tuesday, and today we're featuring the fabulous Jennifer Whitford, our Economics, U.S. History, and Yearbook teacher. Apart from being in her 24th year of teaching here at Hemlock Public School District, here are some things you may not know about the lovely Mrs. Whitford... • As a child she always wanted to be a teacher, and English was her favorite subject in school. • We asked her which Disney character best represents her and she said Alice in Wonderland because, not only does she look a little like her, she is "loving and gentle, trustful and wildly curious like I am". • If she won the lottery and gave up teaching, she'd travel the world, learning about other cultures and photograph them. • She hopes her students will remember her as a teacher who would hand out a hug if needed, that she cared for them as if they were her own children, and that her fun streak could cause a song and dance at any moment. Lastly, a quote she lives her life by is, "Keep smiling, it makes people wonder what you've been up to". We're grateful to have you in our Huskie Pack, Mrs. Whitford! #Huskietastic #Since1863 #HPSDPackLeader

Today's #StaffSpotlight is on Kate Bugbee, who has worked here at Hemlock Public School District as an ECSE Paraprofessional for just under a year. She's always wanted to be a teacher and is loving being a part of the Huskie Pack, and we'd love you to get to know her a little better... • Her favorite part of the job is watching the kids grow and learn. And she couldn't actually think of a least favorite part. • A quirky, hidden talent she has is being able to quote everything there is to know about the movie "The Chipmunk Adventure". She also confessed that she's afraid of worms. • As a child, her dad used to call her "Pinky". • If she won the lottery and didn't have to work, she'd sail around the world in a yacht. • She could listen to "Airplane over the Sea" by Neutral Milk Hotel on repeat. • We asked her what accomplishment she's most proud of so far this year, and she said, "I got a job after being a SAHM for 7 years". Hemlock Public School District is thrilled to have you in our pack, Kate! #PackLeaders #Huskietastic #BetterTogether #Since1863

It's #TeacherFeature Tuesday, and today we're featuring our splendiferous science guy, Jamie Slate. While he has taught at Hemlock High School for two and a half years, he has over a decade of teaching experience. Aside from educating our high schoolers in all things Physics, Computer Science + Astronomy, here are some things you may not know about Mr. Slate... • He could listen to "You Dropped a Bomb on Me" by The Gap Band on repeat. • He loves trivia, and is pretty sure most of his students would confess that he knows a lot of useless information (there may have also been a humble brag included in this answer regarding the fact that his team won the Hemlock Sports Boosters Trivia Night this year). • As a child he always wanted to do something in the medical field. • If he won the lottery and decided to give up teaching, he would continue coaching football (and his off-seasons would consist of a lot of golf). • His favorite subject in school was..."ALL OF IT. Sure, he teaches Science now, but in high school, he loved History, English, Spanish, and Math with just as much passion. He loves learning and competing, so High school was the perfect setting for him because he learned a lot, and he and his friends competed fiercely inside and outside of the classroom. Lastly, we asked him what his students might be surprised to learn about him, and he said, "Initially, I think my students are surprised to find out how much of a nerd I am. That shock wears off pretty quickly though". We're grateful to have you in our Huskie Pack, Mr. Slate! #Huskietastic #Since1863 #HPSDPackLeader

🐟 There's something a little fishy going on in 7th Grade! This is Mr. Wilkowski's seventh year raising and releasing salmon with his students. He uses the experience to discuss Michigan's natural resources and ecosystems. Mr. Wilkowski's 'Salmon in the Classroom' program is sponsored by the Michigan DNR and the Leon P. Martuch Chapter of Trout Unlimited. Trout Unlimited purchased the tank, chiller, and other necessary materials to raise the salmon, and then we get the eggs from the DNR each October/November and the fish are released in late April or early May. #Huskietastic #HandsOnEducation #Since1863
