Embracing the Journey: No Gain Without Pain in Our School's Transformation
As we stand on the brink of a transformative phase for our beloved high school, it's important to remember the timeless adage, "No gain without pain." This phrase rings especially true as we venture into the heart of construction season, potentially as early as late February we start to see work happen. Our ambitious project isn't just about erecting buildings; it's about building a brighter future for our students, families, and the community.
The construction of a new gymnasium, weight room, and wrestling room represents more than just physical structures. These facilities symbolize strength, resilience, and the spirit of teamwork that defines our school. The creation of a main hallway connecting the north and south sides of our campus is a metaphor for unity and accessibility, bridging gaps and fostering a sense of togetherness. Our plans don't stop there. A new theatre is on the horizon, promising a stage for creativity, expression, and cultural enrichment. This theatre will be a place where talents are discovered, stories are told, and dreams are nurtured.
However, with great progress comes inevitable inconvenience. Parking spots may shift, walks to events might get a tad longer, and the familiar sounds of a bustling campus will be accompanied by the clatter and clamor of construction. Dust, debris, and the general disarray that comes with construction are temporary hurdles on our path to excellence.
Let's not forget that these are not mere disruptions; they are the sounds and sights of progress. They are the tangible signs that we are pulling the sled toward a brighter, more innovative future. Each hammer's strike, every brick laid, is a step closer to realizing our vision.
So, as we embark on Phase 2, Part 1 of our journey, let's embrace the inconveniences with open arms. Let's remind ourselves that every moment of disruption is a small price to pay for the incredible benefits on the horizon. We are not just constructing buildings; we are crafting a legacy.
Pardon our dust, for it is the byproduct of growth and progress. We are ready for this, ready to face the challenges head-on. Bring on the inconveniences, for they are mere stepping stones to our grand vision. Together, as a united community, let's forge ahead, undeterred, and watch as our beloved school transforms into a beacon of excellence and inspiration.
Here's to a journey of transformation, resilience, and unwavering spirit. Let the construction begin!

Hemlock residents will be asked, on Tuesday, February 27th, 2024, to renew the previously approved non-homestead base millage.
The non-homestead millage comprises over $1.8 million of the school district’s annual operating budget. Note that this is not related to the HPSD bond proposal put before voters in May of 2022. This proposal will not impact the taxes on owner-occupied homes in our district. Only second or rental homes, commercial properties and industrial properties are affected.
Renewal of the non-homestead millage is essential to maintaining the current programs offered by the district. If this funding is lost, the district cannot replace it with any other funding source. While primary households are not affected by this millage, state law requires a district wide election to approve the millage.
📌 Facts at a glance:
• HPSD voters last approved the non-homestead operating millage in 2022.
• The millage is for a period of 10 years
• This is a tax assessed against businesses and second homes, NOT homeowners
• All residents in the Hemlock Public School District vote on the renewal
• This money is used for district operations
• This money cannot be replaced by other funding sources

This week's #StaffSpotlight is on the marvelous Michelle Bauer, a Paraprofessional who has worked here at K.C. Ling Elementary for 2 years.
We wanted you to get to know her a little better, so here are some nuggets of information you may not know about her:
• Her worst fashion decision was wearing blue tinted glasses in high school.
• Her favorite part of her job is working with the kids and making a difference in their lives. Her least favorite part is going out in the cold for recess.
• Her nickname as a child was “The Kid".
• The Disney character she relates to the most is Snow White, because of her love for animals and her gentleness.
• A song she could listen to on repeat is Boy by Lee Brice.
• A quote she lives her life by is “you only live once!".
We’re grateful you’re part of the Huskie Pack, Michelle.

❄️ Zehnder’s Snowfest has been host to one of the top snow sculpting events in North
America for the past 32 years, and to say we're excited about what's about to take shape at Snowfest 2024 is an understatement of glacial proportion.
Hemlock has 3 teams taking to the snow this year; one in the state division and two in the high school division. The state team can carve 24/7 from Wednesday through Saturday, and the high schoolers will carve on Thursday and Friday (behind Riverplace Plaza).
Be sure to stop by Snowfest in Frankenmuth and cheer our teams on while they carve away at their works of art.

🎶 On Saturday, January 20th, the Hemlock Pep Band brought the energy to Delta College's Girls/Boys Basketball double-header against Northwood University. 🏀 The students performed music throughout both games, and got to watch some incredible basketball be played.
The band also acted as a student section, where they brought energy to the home crowd, and plenty of volume to drown out the visiting teams play calls. The Girls game was a blow out in favor of Delta, and the Boys game was tight for the majority of the game, with Delta losing in the closing minutes.
The students had a blast, and the Delta staff enjoyed their presence, and are looking forward to having us back next year!

It's #TeacherFeature Tuesday and today we're featuring the amazing Ashley Bebow, our 6th and 7th grade math teacher at Hemlock Middle School.
We wanted you to get to know Mrs. Bebow a little better, so here are some fun facts about her:
• A song she could listen to on repeat is Anti-Hero by Taylor Swift #swiftie
• Her favorite subject in school was math (specifically algebra 2 and trigonometry) and unsurprisingly, she has always wanted to be a teacher. She remembers playing school as a kid and always had to be the teacher.
• She loves to run! She joined her school's cross country team in 7th grade, and has been a runner ever since. She was on her high school's cross country and track teams, and was able to continue her running career at the collegiate level during her time at SVSU. She started running half marathons in 2018, and since then, has completed 15.
• Cats are her favorite animal (she has 4, and thinks they are just the best!)
We’re so thrilled to have you in our Huskie Pack, Mrs. Bebow!

Ms. Little's classroom got a brand new mailbox and a collection of geared clocks as a part of the Classroom Makeover initiative. ⏰ Because students learn best with hands on manipulatives, these clocks will help students see and understand how the hour and minute hand work together as the time changes.
