"Standing on the shoulders of giants" - this phrase perfectly encapsulates our approach at Hemlock Public School District. Inspired by our rich heritage, traditions, and the likes of Wallace and Krueger, we understand the profound impact of how one enters a space.
It's not just about the physical presence; it's about the energy, intention, and attitude we bring. Every entry is an opportunity to inspire, to learn, and to make a meaningful connection. Let's make every entrance count.

🎓 In our first Alumni Spotlight, we're thrilled to feature Angela Oliver (formerly Engel), a proud graduate of Hemlock High School's class of 2000.
Angela was deeply involved in the Hemlock community, participating in Basketball, Volleyball, Softball, and contributing to the Prom/Homecoming Committee and Student Council. When asked about her favorite aspect of Hemlock, Angela emphasized the blend of small-town charm with ample big-city opportunities, a unique combination that shaped her worldview.
Following her graduation, Angela pursued her passion for education and sports at Grand Valley State University, earning a B.S. in Movement Science with a double emphasis in K-12 Education and Athletic Training, along with a minor in Health Education. She furthered her academic journey with a Master of Education degree from Tiffin University in 2011.
Reflecting on her time at Hemlock, Angela credits the school for preparing her extensively for life beyond graduation. Through opportunities for job shadowing and volunteering, she gained invaluable insights into teaching and athletic training. Angela fondly remembers the supportive educators who left a lasting impact, including Mr. Agresta, Mr. Vondette, Mrs. Lockwood, Mrs. Bry, Mrs. Metiva, and Trainer Becky, among others.
Her standout memory from Hemlock High School? Playing in the State Semi-Final softball game in Battle Creek in 2000, coached by the ineffable Larry Graf, alongside her incredible team.
Today, Angela serves as an Elementary P.E./Health Teacher and Certified Athletic Trainer at Montrose Community Schools. She finds immense fulfillment in shaping young minds, teaching them lifelong skills about health, well-being, and physical fitness. Angela cherishes the relationships she's built with her students, some of whom she's had the pleasure of reconnecting with as their Athletic Trainer in recent years.
For current huskie high schoolers, Angela offers sage advice: Get involved in school activities and don't hesitate to explore potential careers through job shadowing opportunities. It's all about finding your passion and nurturing it.
Angela Oliver's journey from Hemlock High School to her impactful career is a testament to the foundation laid by her alma mater and the dedication she brings to her profession. We're proud to spotlight her achievements and celebrate her ongoing contributions to education and athletics.

Our little huskies have been busy spreading love and kindness throughout the community. Mrs. Klopf's class had an amazing day of community service at Stone Crest Care Facility in Freeland. From delivering balloon people to crafting with residents, and even playing a fun bowling game, it was a heartwarming day filled with love and joy.
Thanks to donations collected throughout January and the creativity of Party Pals Balloonery, they adopted all 31 residents as a part of the Adopt A Grandparent Program. ❤️

Mrs. Schmidt's 3rd Grade STEAM students learned about how animals in the wild have to compete for resources, but discovered through further research that some animals work together in groups instead of working to survive on their own. They then programmed cars with magnets to represent animals collecting resources in the wild and modeled how animals working together gained more resources than those who worked alone. It was wonderful to see these young scientists discuss how and why animals display certain behaviors and then model their discoveries in a fun way.

Oh, for the Love of Huskies 💕 Our journey through some of the sweethearts of Hemlock High School continues with another heartwarming story of connection and companionship. Meet Stephanie and Andrew Wendling.
Graduates of the Class of 2006, Stephanie and Andrew's love story blossomed through the corridors of Hemlock High. They say it all began at Megan Gleesing's house in 2003, where mutual friends introduced them, and from that moment on, their friendship grew into something truly special.
Stephanie and Andrew's favorite Hemlock memories are filled with laughter, shared among a tight-knit group of friends. These bonds forged during their high school years have remained steadfast, enriching their lives to this day.
Their twenty years of togetherness, including a decade of marriage, speak volumes about their enduring commitment and love. Let's hear it for Stephanie and Andrew as they continue to journey through life hand in hand. 🐾

This week's #StaffSpotlight is on the marvelous Michelle Wheeler, our Administrative Assistant for Hemlock Elementary School and the Early Childhood Center.
We want you to get to know her a little better, so here are some fun nuggets of information you may not know about her:
• She has been obsessed with genealogy since she was a little kid. She's solved a few mysteries and traced families back hundreds of years. She's also transcribed and indexed almost a thousand records for FamilySearch.
• If she could time travel, the first place and time she'd go would be straight to Laurel Canyon, California in 1967 and camp out in Mama Cass Elliot's living room.
• A dish she cooks to perfection is rare venison steak with bleu cheese mushroom sauce.
• She could listen to Gumshield by Don Broco on repeat.
• A quote she lives her life by is "The only constant in life is change".
We’re grateful you’re part of the Huskie Pack, Michelle!
