A Hemlock's Dynamic Duo 🥂 Meet Sarah and Derek Hirschman. As freshmen, Sarah and Derek crossed paths in the bustling halls of Hemlock High School, and the rest, as they say, is history. Graduating side by side with the Class of 2007, their high school journey was a whirlwind of unforgettable moments. From cheering on the Huskies under the Friday night lights to supporting each other in their respective sports, Sarah and Derek shared a bond that only grew stronger with time. Their high school memories are a kaleidoscope of laughter, friendship, and shared moments that have stood the test of time. In 2005, sparks flew, and they embarked on a journey that led them down the aisle in 2014, sealing their commitment to each other for a lifetime of adventures. Their huskie love story is a testament to the enduring connections forged within these walls. Through thick and thin, Sarah and Derek stand as a stunning example of love, loyalty, and support. Join us in honoring this delightful duo; let's hear it for the Hirschmans! 🐾 #ForTheLoveOfHuskies #HemlockHuskies #SchoolSweethearts

Meet Kelley Bauer, a remarkable 3rd grader in Mrs. Grandy's class and one of our extraordinary Heart Heroes! 🫀 Despite facing unique challenges, Kelley is a true champion with an inspiring story. Born with his heart and organs flipped in the opposite direction, Kelley embodies resilience and courage. Kelley was diagnosed with dextrocardia, a rare condition where the heart is on the right side of the body and flipped backward. Alongside this, he had thinning of his aorta, necessitating surgery on his aortic arch and valve. His surgery, performed at U of M when he was just 3 years old, involved repairing his aorta arch and valve, as well as addressing membranes underneath his pulmonary valve. Kelley's everyday life reflects his uniqueness. From reciting the pledge with his hand over his right chest, where his heart resides, to having his blood pressure checked on his right side, his journey is a testament to his courage and adaptability. Kelley, you're an inspiration to us all, and we're privileged to have you as part of our Huskie family! 🐾 #HemlockHeartHeroes #HeartHealth #HemlockHuskies

It's #TeacherFeatureTuesday and today we're featuring the shining Shawn Enright, our Hemlock Virtual teacher here at Hemlock Public School District. We wanted you to get to know Ms. Enright a little better, so here are some fun facts about her: • The song she could listen to on repeat is All Too Well by Taylor Swift. • If she won the lottery and decided to give up teaching, she'd do lots of traveling, lots of volunteering, and spend lots of time with loved ones. • She believes her students will remember her as someone who had high expectations and was strict, but that she pushed them to be their best. • A quote she lives her life by is "Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better!" by Maya Angelou • Her favorite subject in school was Psychology. We’re so grateful to have you in our Huskie Pack, Ms. Enright! #Huskietastic #Since1863 #HPSDPackLeader #HemlockStrong #HemlockHuskies

Hemlock residents will be asked, on Tuesday, February 27th, 2024, to renew the previously approved non-homestead base millage. This proposal will not impact the taxes on owner-occupied homes in our district. Only second or rental homes, commercial properties and industrial properties are affected. Renewal of the non-homestead millage is essential to maintaining the current programs offered by the district. If this funding is lost, the district cannot replace it with any other funding source. While primary households are not affected by this millage, state law requires a district wide election to approve the millage. 📌 Facts at a glance: • HPSD voters last approved the non-homestead operating millage in 2022. • The millage is for a period of 10 years • This is a tax assessed against businesses and second homes, NOT homeowners • All residents in the Hemlock Public School District vote on the renewal • This money is used for district operations • This money cannot be replaced by other funding sources #HemlockStrong #BetterTogether
