Demo Day 🚧 Hall of Fame Inductee 2023 John Mulvaney stopped by the school recently and started taking down the wall (with permission, of course) that will help create "main street," a corridor that will allow foot traffic to travel from the new gymnasium on the northside to the new theatre on the southside of Hemlock High School.

Did you know the current school funding structure in Michigan was created by Proposal A in the 1990s?
Here's one crucial thing to understand:
Our school district relies on non-homestead millage to receive the base per-pupil foundation allowance (lowest/minimal). All public school districts in Michigan pass this millage, but it can be confusing when people see positive changes in the school district, like construction, and assume we're well-funded. We have different funding streams (or buckets): General Fund (non-homestead), Construction (tax-neutral 2022 bond), and Maintenance (sinking fund, 2020).
It's essential to clarify that this millage is required to keep our lights on and pay our teachers and staff. The millage funds staff and teacher wages and this funding has been in place for normal operations for a very long time since the inception of Proposal A. Without it, we would lose critical funding that supports our everyday operations.

Our staff and summer workers recently gathered for a delicious BBQ on the patio. 🍔 A huge thank you to Zach Bauer, our resident Food Dude, for all the prep work, and to our tech department for their help with the grilling. It was a full house and a fun time for everyone. As it turns out, Huskies run AND eat in packs.

Officially known as the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP), Meet Up and Eat Up provides free nutritious meals to children up to age 18. After school lunchrooms close for summer break, SFSP helps prevent more than 500,000 Michigan children from going hungry each year.
