🎓 Alumni Spotlight | Chris Tompa, a 2003 Hemlock graduate, remembers his time fondly—balancing work, enjoying shop class, and building strong connections with teachers and classmates. He credits Hemlock for giving him a foundation in communication, problem-solving, and confidence—skills that serve him well today as a licensed hearing instrument specialist.

After earning degrees from Delta and Northwood and completing hearing instrument specialist training through CMU, Chris went on to open Crystal Clear Hearing in Saginaw, where he helps people improve their lives through better hearing.

He’s most proud of building a meaningful life with his wife Teresa and their two kids, Bradley and Vivian. His advice to current Huskies: “Take your time seriously, work hard, and don’t be afraid to ask for help. The staff truly care and want to see you succeed.”

🌟 The Hemlock High School Pom team just wrapped up an incredible week at Mid American Pompon Camp—and they came home stacked with awards!

• 1st place in routine & kickline all 3 days
• 1st place in originality routine
• Named Grand Champs
• Earned Peppy Pom (Day 1 and overall!)
• Voted Most Congenial by teams in the advanced division
• Awarded the Knock Your Sock Off Award by HH Dow Varsity

On top of that, six Huskies were selected for the Mid American Pompon All-Star Team.

And perhaps the most special moment of all? Our Mid American Staff Sister this year was none other than Gracie Oldenburg—a Hemlock grad, former teammate, and role model to so many.

🐾 Hazel, one of our traveling Huskie pups, joined Alicia and Jared for a #PawsomeSummerAdventure to Sleeping Bear Dunes and Lake George.

Their trip kicked off at the Philip A. Hart Visitor Center, followed by stops along the Pierce Stocking Scenic Drive and a full-on Dune Climb to Lake Michigan—a bold choice in the heat (especially for those with shorter legs). After conquering the climb, they enjoyed some well-earned cabin time reading The Legend of Sleeping Bear, playing games, refueling, and even dog-sitting their buddy, Thor the Boxer. Another #Huskietastic adventure in the books.

🐾 Pawsome Summer Adventures | Little Lucy Massa and her traveling Huskie pal Harlo headed to Southern Illinois this summer, where Lucy served as the flower girl in a beautiful wedding—and Harlo got in on the fun too.

They were so busy dancing the night away, they forgot to snap a photo together… but word has it Lucy made sure Harlo snuck into the professional shots (photographic proof coming soon). From posing with the wedding party to being drawn into the guest book poster, Harlo’s first wedding was one to remember.

We’re Not Done Yet 🚧 At Hemlock Public School District, the doors may be open, but that doesn’t mean we’ve crossed the finish line. “Open for business” isn’t the same as a grand opening—and even a grand opening doesn’t always mean we’re 100% complete.

Some of our projects—from funding to architectural drawings to final walk-throughs—take years to go from idea to reality. Some feel like watching construction is as slow as grass growing. Others think it’s magic: poof—there’s a brand-new building. The truth? It’s somewhere in the middle (usually with a little mud on our boots and a to-do list in hand).

We welcome your feedback—we really do—but we also kindly ask for a little grace and a gentle recalibration of expectations. We’re committed to excellence, but excellence takes time, patience, and yes, sometimes a little more paint.

Thanks for pulling the sled with us. The best is still ahead.
