End of the 2nd Marking Period/ 1st Semester is Friday, January 18th. Reminder for 6th, 7th and 8th graders -- Criteria for passing any particular semester of a core curricular class are: Earn a passing grade in each marking period of that particular semester (this is the PRIMARY OPTION) OR
Earn a passing grade in at least one marking period in a given semester plus pass a comprehensive semester exam
OR
(As a final option) Complete online courses in summer school. All classes of this nature should be attempted only after failing to pass a regular class offering or unless approved by the principal. This type of class has attendance rules and a cost.
Students who fail a marking period are allowed to retake previously failed assessments to earn a passing marking on those failed assessments in order to pass the marking period. As a prerequisite to this, the student must have satisfactorily completed all work included in the unit preceding the assessment. This must happen within five (5) days following the last day of the first three marking periods OR within the final 10 days of the fourth marking period. In semester 2 of 8th grade, students must pass each core course without retakes--this is in preparation for high school expectations.
