The sign
A Hemlock Middle School teacher could use your support for his Project: Take the Studio Anywhere! Mr. Bohn needs your help to give his students this Canon HD camera to be used in class projects throughout the year. As he explains: My middle school students are an extremely fun and bright group of learners. I find they work best when I give them options for expressing their learning. I have several artistic students who can draw and cartoon like professionals. Others write and express themselves with great feeling. I would like to be able to offer my students more options for expressing their learning. I currently have one video camera with a green screen. This is a popular option for many projects and is a bottleneck for productivity. If I had another camera set up and editing machine, I could double the opportunities for my "techie" and dramatic students to excel and find enjoyment in learning. My Project: Many of my projects in class give the option to record video with green screen effects. Having only one camera and set up currently creates a bottleneck in the flow of students who can select this option. A second camera will double the number of students who can express their learning in their preferred medium. This camera and green screen will allow students to put themselves in any situation or location needed to express their learning. Students can be on the beaches of Normandy, the Sahara Desert, or in the midst of Machu Picchu. I have an older model of this camera so I know it holds up and performs well. To support this classroom effort, you can contribute to the project using this link: https://www.donorschoose.org/project/take-the-studio-anywhere/4837855/?utm_source=dc&utm_medium=directlink&utm_campaign=teacherhub&utm_term=teacher_7161516&rf=directlink-dc-2020-04-teacherhub-teacher_7161516&challengeid=21576344

Teaching students in a school classroom was the norm. Teaching in a virtual classroom is the new norm. This is what it looks like to be teaching in the virtual world. Same beautiful faces. Much different "connection", but a connection nonetheless! #kidsandteachersadapting

Virtual classroom
There's so much you can read about a person when they are physically present with you at school--that is a critical part of interpersonal communication in the regular classroom. But how can you hope to duplicate that in the virtual classroom? Just observe and ask! Just seeing faces and hearing each other helps. Individual check ins offer secure personal feedback as well. Maintaining social and emotional well-being is important. Our students are very happy to be able to safely interact again--see each other and hear each other--and the teacher, of course!

Hello Middle School parents and students: Mr. Keyser sent all of our students a email this afternoon. Checking in to see if all are okay, if they need anything to be as successful as possible in doing their schoolwork, and encouraging them to stick with it and be strong. Please check that email and review it together. Respond as necessary to any of the questions that may pertain to you and your student. Stay strong and stay healthy! We are dedicated to your success!

Buddha sayings
Learning is continuing for all of our Huskies. Have you checked Skyward to see how your child is doing in their studies? If not, this is the perfect time. And doing so regularly is a necessity. More than ever, our students need parent follow-up to ensure their success. It is imperative that all of our students continue to do their best--completing learning activities, submitting assignments, following up if necessary with suggested corrections to get full credit. We need all of our parents to be diligent in tracking their child's progress and supporting their learning. If you have questions about how your child is doing, do not hesitate to contact their teacher(s), Mrs. Zastrow (zastrow@hemlockps.com or 989.372.1307) or Mrs. Keyser (keyser@hemlockps.com or 989.482.3429)

Don't be afraid...
It's time to reclaim your child's belongings from school, if they left things behind in their locker. It looks like Friday will bring us good weather; a good time to reclaim their things. We have removed all remaining items from lockers and placed them in labeled bags. You'll be getting a contact from school personnel to let you know if you have items to pick up. To ensure safety, we've scheduled pickup times by grade for Friday, April 17 in the afternoon. Fifth grade noon to 1:00. Sixth grade 1:00-2:00. Seventh grade 2:00-3:00. Eighth grade 3:00-4:00. Items will be placed on tables under our front entrance for pickup per this schedule. Please follow social distancing rules-one person at a time at the tables, touch only your child's bag, only have someone with no symptoms of illness claim the belongings. If necessary, you can contact Mr. Keyser about this- keyser@hemlockps.com or 989.482.3429 between 9 AM and 3:00 PM using text or voice.
