Let’s give our 8th graders the ultimate send-off!

The Hemlock Middle School PTO and the Hemlock Pep Club have put together a fantastic lineup of events for the last two days of school to celebrate the amazing Class of 2030.

Mark your calendars and come help us make these final middle school memories special:

Thursday, June 4th
Chalk the Walk (Thursday Evening): Stop by the HMS sidewalk anytime on Thursday evening to write an encouraging, celebratory, or sweet chalk message for your student to see on their last day!

Friday, June 5th
Clap Out: Join us outside the HMS main doors on Friday to cheer, clap, and make some noise for our 8th graders as they exit through the front doors!

Pizza Picnic (Immediately After School): The celebration continues at Richland Township Park! All 8th graders are treated to a fun pizza picnic right after the final bell.

Keep an eye out for some awesome new gear! The Hemlock Pep Club has generously purchased class t-shirts for the students who requested one.

Thank you to everyone in our amazing community for helping us say farewell to the Class of 2030. Let's make it unforgettable!

8th Grade Farewell
Since yesterday was National Paper Airplane Day, Mrs. Garrett's fifth graders tried their hand at some aviation engineering!

The hall turned into a runway as students designed, folded, and tested their best creations - we think we definitely have some future aerospace engineers in the making!

If you notice the HMS grounds looking a little more fantastic than normal, you can credit these industrious students from the National Junior Honor Society! They put their shovels and rakes to excellent use, adding some spring flair to our building. We can't thank them enough!

Good morning families, This is a friendly reminder about our morning drop-off procedures to help keep traffic moving safely and efficiently for everyone. If you are the first car in line, please pull all the way forward. Once cars reach the sidewalk, students should exit the vehicle. Please do not create a second drop-off line in the parking lot. If your student is dropped off by a high school sibling, please share these expectations with them as well. We know your time is precious, but safety is — and always will be — our top priority. Thank you for your cooperation and support in helping our mornings run smoothly!

Player and Parent Meeting
Last night, the 8th-grade band proved they can rock any venue. Because of the weather, we had to make a last-minute pivot from Wallace Field to Legend Gymnasium, but our amazing students didn't miss a beat.

Huge thank you to everyone who packed the bleachers, to the parents for their endless support, and to these incredible musicians for putting on a fantastic show. The acoustics might have been different, but the talent was exactly the same!

Friday was a beautiful, full-circle day at Hemlock Middle School.

We watched our eighth graders take a giant step forward as they visited the High School. Seeing them welcomed so warmly into the halls where they will soon be freshmen was a proud moment for all of us - even if it's hard to believe how fast they've grown.

At the same time, we had the joy of opening our own doors to the entire fourth-grade class from K.C. Ling Elementary. Our staff and students were thrilled to host these future fifth graders, guiding them through building and locker tours. A highlight of the day was our student panel, which did an amazing job answering questions and turning transition worries into genuine excitement.

It’s a privilege to be a part of these milestone moments, watching one class ready itself for high school while welcoming the next generation into our HMS family.

This is your reminder to stop by Legend Gymnasium tonight at 7:00 PM for our Spring Band Concert! We are expecting rain this evening, so the location has been changed to an indoor setting. 8th-12th grade band students will be showcasing their talents and the hard work they've put in all year long. It's sure to be an unforgettable event - see you in the gym!

Our Student Council and National Junior Honor Society students took a field trip to watch a Great Lakes Loons game this week.

This social outing was an opportunity for them to have fun with their peers after a year of hard work and dedication. The day was made even better when their advisors participated in a race to see which ice cream topping was the fastest - we hear that caramel was the winner!

We're so happy that these upstanding students had a great time (and congratulations to Caramel).

Our 8th grade students have been working on something truly special.

They created Growth Mindset Gumball Machines and flower beds filled with positive messages and encouraging words to support our 6th and 7th graders during tough times. Each gumball and flower is a reminder to stay strong, keep trying, and believe in yourself even when things feel hard.

It’s amazing to see our older students stepping up as leaders and spreading kindness throughout our school. Small messages can make a big difference, and these students are helping create a more positive and supportive community for everyone.

Way to go, Mrs. Slominski's Growth Class!

Today we'd like to celebrate 8th grader Emmeline Reikowsky, this year's Turnaround Achievement Award winner.

Emmeline was nominated by Principal Lori Gensch, who had this to say about her remarkable transformation: "Emmeline has demonstrated outstanding perseverance and personal growth. Throughout the year she has developed into a focused, goal-driven student who is committed to her success. Her dedication, resilience, and determination to improve truly exemplify the spirit of the Turnaround Achievement Award."

All of us here at HMS are so incredibly proud of you, Emmeline. The example you've set shows what it means to "Pull the Sled!"
