1st Grade STEAM students learned about the importance of pollination and created and tested their own hand pollination tools. We are excited to plant our Tower Garden later this week to continue our conversation about plants and pollinators.





Thank you, @MiSTEM and @STEMatSVSU for the opportunities that your mini-grant is providing for our students at K.C. Ling and Hemlock Elementary. This week, 2nd-4th grade students learned to write algorithms using block coding. While programming Dash and Dot to do a variety of tasks, students worked together to troubleshoot any "bugs" that they came across and to discover where loops could be used to shorten their algorithms.

Emily Schmidt has been awarded a $1,500 grant to purchase 6 robots and other resources for her classroom. Schmidt says, "Our students have been able to use a few of these robots over the last four years to help develop their coding logic and problem-solving skills. This grant will help us reach more students and inspire them to further explore STEAM subjects."

Kona Ice will be here on Thursday, March 25th to help kick-off Spring Break. Virtual students can visit Ling from 9-11:45 or Hemlock Elementary from 12-1. They will be selling the $5 color changing cups.

The book fairy was busy this past week visiting several of our classrooms that have completed their reading goals! Congratulations to Mrs. Engelhart's, Ms. Schantz's, Mrs. Bouchard's, Mrs. Klopf's, Miss Megan's, Miss Tracy's, and Mrs. Granda's classes for achieving their classrooms reading goals. All the students in these classrooms were able to choose a book from the book fairy's basket to take home and keep. Keep up the great work!

Author Bruce Hale Zoomed with our elementary students yesterday. Bruce Hale has written and/or illustrated over 50 books for kids. His popular series includes the award-winning Chet Gecko Mysteries, the Monstertown Mysteries, and Clark the Shark, among others.
