K.C. Ling Elementary School is excited to kick off Math Month, a schoolwide celebration designed to build student confidence, curiosity, and enthusiasm for mathematics through hands-on and real-world learning experiences.
Throughout Math Month, students will participate in a variety of interactive activities that highlight how math is used every day, both in school and beyond.
One highlight of Math Month is the distribution of student math packets. These packets provide families with opportunities to engage in math learning together and reinforce skills being practiced in the classroom.
Students will also explore real-world connections through a “Jobs That Use Math” activity. This experience helps students understand how math plays an important role in many careers.
Estimation skills will be showcased next week as jars of items are placed in the school lobby. Classes may visit the jars at their convenience to practice estimating quantities. Estimation slips will be submitted in designated bags near each jar, and a winner will be announced each week.
Another ongoing Math Month feature is the "Question of the Week." Each week, students will receive a new problem to solve at their own pace. Completed entries will be collected each Thursday by noon, with a weekly winner announced every Friday.
Math Month will also include the always-popular Math Challenge and Math Bowl competitions. Classrooms are encouraged to practice regularly and select their Math Champion to represent them in the Math Bowl.
“K.C. Ling Elementary is proud to create learning experiences that make math fun, meaningful, and engaging for all students,” said Principal Cory Snider. “Math Month is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate problem solving, perseverance, and teamwork.”
K.C. Ling Elementary thanks its staff, students, and families for their support in making Math Month a successful and exciting experience for everyone.
