Hemlock Athletics is excited to announce the launch of a new Club Sideline Cheer program at Hemlock High School, designed to enhance the game day experience and build school spirit across Huskie athletics. Breya Lennox, a member of the Hemlock High School teaching staff, has been named Head Coach and will serve the program in a volunteer role, bringing a strong background in both competitive and sideline cheerleading.

All interested 2026-27 freshman through seniors should attend an informational meeting on Friday, April 10 from 3:00 to 3:30 PM in Room 4 at Hemlock High School where Coach Lennox will explain how the clinic and tryout sessions will work. Students should also complete the interest form by April 15 at 2026-27 Cheer Interest Form. No prior experience is necessary, just a positive attitude and a willingness to learn. A sideline cheer clinic will be held April 20, 21, and 22 from 3:30 to 5:00 PM in the Legend Gymnasium, where participants will learn the material and skills needed for tryout evaluations taking place on April 23, 2026.

The sideline cheer team will focus on creating a positive and energetic atmosphere at Hemlock athletic events. Through leading crowd chants, as well as incorporating tumbling and stunting, the group will play an active role in encouraging fan engagement and supporting Huskie teams throughout the school year. The program is designed to be a game day focused experience that allows students to get involved, build confidence, and contribute to school spirit in a meaningful way.

“Cheerleading is such a vital part of the high school experience, especially in a small town,” said Lennox. “It is the type of sport that challenges you to do things you did not think you were capable of. Hemlock is a growing community, and my hope is to create a safe space for athletes to continue to challenge themselves and embrace their school spirit. A place where students can show extra support for our school by cheering their peers on from the sidelines loud and proud. There has already been a lot of interest in the sport, and I am absolutely ecstatic to see these athletes blossom.”

Lennox brings a well rounded background in cheerleading to the program. She began her athletic career in gymnastics before joining the Varsity Competitive Cheer team at St. Charles High School, where she competed for four years as a flyer. She later added sideline cheer, creating some of her most memorable high school experiences. Following graduation, Lennox continued her cheer career at Central Michigan University, where she participated in both All-Girl and Coed teams, further developing her skills and knowledge of the sport.

Director of Athletics, Angela Pohl stated, “We are excited to expand opportunities for our students with the addition of sideline cheerleading at Hemlock High School. This initiative reflects our commitment to listening to student interest and creating inclusive pathways for involvement in athletics. Under the leadership of one of our own teachers, who brings valuable collegiate cheer experience, we are confident this program will foster school spirit, teamwork, and a sense of belonging for students who may not have otherwise participated in a sport.”

With strong early interest and leadership in place, Hemlock Athletics looks forward to the positive impact the Club Sideline Cheer program will bring to the overall game day atmosphere and school community.
