Hemlock shares how to DIY Strategic Plan

Hemlock Public School District shares how to “DIY” Strategic Plan with people from around the State of Michigan at the Michigan Association of School Board annual leadership conference this fall. The school district over the last ten years has undergone three strategic plan cycles and is now sharing the lessons they have learned through the process with others.

Board President Matt Wesner said, “We’ve all heard the saying – those that fail to plan, plan to fail.  Well Hemlock Schools has emphasized focus on Strategic Planning with all stakeholders.  It is a process that has helped to guide and focus our decisions and ensure our future success.”

Over the years the strategic planning process and the plan itself has helped set an upward trajectory course for the school district with solid results. The current plan was developed with stakeholder involvement and approved during the 2021-2022 school year. The review included the district mission, vision and the focus areas: teaching and learning, building and grounds, human resources, and branding.

The district’s plan was a National School Public Relations Association National Merit Award winner for 2022. In addition to schools around Michigan, others school systems around the nation are requesting to learn more about Hemlock’s process and templates.

The administrative team will be reporting our progress yet this fall and work to refine the plan for the governance team by spring 2023.
