In just its second season, the Hemlock High School varsity girls golf team is heading to the MHSAA Division 4 State Finals. The Huskies secured their spot with a third-place finish at the October 6 regional at Twin Brooks Golf Course in Chesaning and will compete October 16–17 at The Meadows at Grand Valley State University.
The state finals berth caps a regular season filled with team accomplishments and individual honors. Hemlock finished second in the final TVC Blue conference standings, just one stroke behind Ithaca, and took first in the Blue Division at the final conference jamboree. The Huskies also placed second out of 13 teams at the St. Louis Shark Classic and third at the Saginaw County Tournament, where Maylin Buckley set a girls golf school record with a round of 78.
Buckley was named TVC Blue Player of the Year and earned first-team all-conference honors. Audrey Vasher and Isabella Brandt received second-team all-conference recognition, while Kaitlyn Latoski earned honorable mention. The junior varsity team also gained tournament experience, finishing fifth at the Freeland JV Invitational.
At the regional, Buckley led Hemlock with an 89, placing third individually. Vasher followed with a 96 and a seventh-place individual finish. Brandt and Latoski each shot 111, while Taryn Pratt rounded out the regional lineup. Together, their efforts earned the young program a place among Michigan’s Division 4 state finalists.
With coach Scott Norfleet guiding the team into the postseason, the Huskies have reached a milestone that gives the program plenty to celebrate and build on. Hemlock High School will recognize the team with a clap-out on Thursday, October 15, at 11:00 a.m. in the main hallway before the golfers depart for the tournament. Hemlock Public Schools congratulates the athletes, coaches, and families on an outstanding season and wishes the Huskies success at the State Finals. Go Huskies!
