The Hemlock Public School District Board of Education has approved ballot language for two proposals that will appear before voters in the Tuesday, November 3, 2026, general election.
Voters will consider a Bond Proposal and a four-year Operating Millage Renewal Proposal. Both proposals are structured to maintain, rather than increase, current school tax rates.
“Let’s be real. Nobody loves taxes, and we understand the responsibility that comes with asking our community to consider any school proposal,” said Board President Matt Wesener. “These proposals provide a responsible path forward by protecting essential operating revenue and continuing strategic investment in our schools without increasing current tax rates. As a Board, we remain committed to strong schools, careful planning, transparency, and responsible stewardship of every taxpayer dollar.”
Bond Proposal
If approved, the district would be authorized to borrow an amount not to exceed $17,750,000 to support improvements across Hemlock Public School District. This would allow the district to add additional needed classrooms at Hemlock Elementary and K.C. Ling Elementary, focus on safety measures, and work toward more campus connectivity with additional sidewalks and paved parking.
Bond proceeds could be used for:
Building additions and facility remodeling
Furniture and equipment
Instructional technology
School buses
Playgrounds, athletic fields, and related facilities
Parking areas, sidewalks, and site improvements
The estimated millage for the proposed bonds in 2027 is 1.10 mills, representing a 0.00-mill net increase over the current levy.
