Hemlock Public School District students took part in a powerful and meaningful experience this month as they presented original artwork at the Saginaw County Juvenile Center, located at 3360 Hospital Road.
This opportunity is part of a growing collaboration between Hemlock Public School District and Saginaw County’s Early Childhood Court Program, bringing together education, community partners, and the judicial system in a way that highlights student voice, creativity, and real-world learning.
Students presented their artwork to Judge Meter, members of the court team, and state-level leadership connected to Early Childhood Court programs. While the setting may feel formal, the environment is designed to be welcoming and supportive, allowing students to share their work with confidence and pride.

“This is more than just an art project. It is an opportunity for students to see that their voice and their work matter beyond the classroom,” said Hemlock art teacher RaeAnn Woodcock. “They have put a great deal of thought and creativity into this, and I am incredibly proud of how they are stepping up to share their work in a real-world setting.”
The collaboration has already begun to gain attention beyond the local level. Representatives from Community Mental Health (CMH) will be documenting the event, and the project is expected to be featured in both a statewide publication and a national article highlighting innovative partnerships in Early Childhood Court programs. Additionally, the work will be shared in the Saginaw County Government's monthly newsletter.
“This is exactly what ‘Small Town, Big Opportunities’ looks like in action,” said Superintendent Don Killingbeck. “When our students are given authentic opportunities to create, present, and connect with leaders in our community, it builds confidence, purpose, and pride. We are grateful for our partnership with Saginaw County and CMH for making this possible.”
The event not only celebrates student creativity but also reinforces the importance of collaboration between schools and community organizations in creating meaningful learning experiences.
