Hemlock Public School District officially opened the Patrick Wolgast Fieldhouse on March 16, marking a transformative moment for student opportunity and honoring a legacy defined by grit, heart, and a relentless love for Hemlock.
The ribbon cutting and soft opening welcomed students, families, staff, donors, and community members into a space that will serve as a year-round hub for training, wellness, and growth. From football and soccer to softball, baseball, band, and performance groups, the Fieldhouse is already bringing energy and purpose to every corner of the Huskie Pack.
More than a facility, the Patrick Wolgast Fieldhouse stands as a tribute to the life and legacy of Patrick Wolgast. Known as a hard charger, full of grit, and deeply committed to his community, Patrick loved Hemlock and loved athletics. This space now carries that spirit forward, challenging every student who walks through its doors to work harder, compete stronger, and represent something bigger than themselves.
“This is a defining moment for our district,” said Board of Education President Matt Wesener. “The Patrick Wolgast Fieldhouse reflects what is possible when a community comes together with purpose. It ensures our students have access to opportunities year-round and reinforces the standard of excellence we expect in Hemlock.”
Superintendent Don Killingbeck Jr., Ed.D., emphasized the broader impact of the project. “This is more than a building. It is a commitment to our students and our community. Patrick was full of grit and loved Hemlock deeply. It is fitting that this space will now inspire that same mindset in the next generation. No excuses. Just opportunity.”
The program also featured remarks from Dominic “Dom” Restuccia of USDA Rural Development, whose partnership helped make the project possible, and Craig Goslin, who spoke on behalf of the Patrick Wolgast Family, reflecting on Patrick’s life, his love for competition, and the meaning behind this lasting tribute.
One Hemlock student athlete captured the impact simply. “This place makes you want to work. It feels like there are no excuses anymore. We can get better every day.”
The Patrick Wolgast Fieldhouse includes more than 8,000 square feet of open activity space, designed to remove seasonal barriers and expand access for student training, physical activity, and skill development. The project was supported through federal funding, community partnerships, and generous private contributions.
While the ribbon cutting marks an important milestone, additional exterior work and enhancements will continue this spring, with a full community grand opening planned for fall 2026.
The Patrick Wolgast Fieldhouse is not just a place. It is a promise.
A promise to invest in students.
A promise to build with purpose.
A promise that legacy lives on.
