Reese

The Hemlock Middle School Student Council recently traveled to Reese Middle/High School to visit their peers for a Student Council Exchange.

The day started strongly, with students surprised by their entrance. “I love how welcoming they were. The high school band played for us when we walked in,” said Student Council Vice-President Elizabeth Greenleaf. This was the third meeting with Reese as the council members met at The Bavarian Inn during October’s Middle Level LIFTOFF Conference. The Hemlock council also hosted Reese in November, as the Rockets were able to tour HMS and Lockwood STEM Center during their visit.

For a leadership activity, students engaged in a collaborative activity that focused on leadership topics. “It was great to hear engaging communication in topics such as digital culture and kindness,  improving school spirit, and service beyond the school walls,” said Advisor Jeremy Stedry. Teams completed a gallery walk by presenting their ideas to the rest of the group

The Hemlock council members were able to view how Reese conducts their meetings. “It was a great learning experience for all of us. We were there to practice and enhance our leadership skills,” said Student Council Representative Aubrey Siler.

The day was concluded by participating in a Reese MS pep assembly filled with activities, cheers, and welcoming Hemlock with gifts for their visit. “Everyone was very kind and dedicated to making Reese better. We learned several new things from the trip and hope to bring some back to Hemlock,” said Student Council Representative Ireland Graham.

The Hemlock Middle School Student Council looks forward to implementing what they learned from Reese Middle School as they continue to plan events, promote school spirit, and lead by example throughout the school year.
