Kim

For Kimberly Hoeppner, service to Hemlock is rooted in family, tradition, and a deep belief in supporting children and the people who care for them. A longtime community member and dedicated volunteer, Kimberly represents the heart of local government—quiet leadership, steady commitment, and a genuine love for her community.

Kimberly graduated from St. Charles High School in 1981 and has been married to her husband, William Hoeppner, for nearly 37 years this coming July. William is a proud Hemlock alumnus from the Class of 1973, and together they raised two children who both graduated from Hemlock Public School District.

Their son, Cory, is a 2003 Hemlock alum who went on to attend Ferris State University, earning a degree in Plastics Engineering in 2007. Their daughter, Billi, is a 2006 Hemlock alum who graduated Magna Cum Laude from Saginaw Valley State University and later earned her master’s degree in Education from the University of Michigan. Billi now serves as a Special Education Teacher at Traverse City Intermediate School District, continuing the family’s commitment to education and service.

A Career Centered on Children and Families

Kimberly recently retired after 25 years of providing licensed group in-home daycare, a career built on trust, care, and nurturing young learners during some of their most formative years. Retirement hasn’t slowed her down—it has simply allowed her to devote more time to what she loves most: spending time with her grandchildren, camping, and traveling with extended family to Florida.

Her lifelong work with children and families gives her a unique perspective on education—one grounded in patience, empathy, and real-world understanding of what families need.

Service to Hemlock

Kimberly has served on the Hemlock Public School District Board of Education since 2019, when she was elected to replace outgoing trustee David King, who chose not to seek re-election. For Kimberly, board service is a natural extension of her desire to support parents, students, and staff.

She is also deeply involved in the broader Hemlock community. Kimberly is active with Hemlock Strong and is a longtime member of the Hemlock Celebrations Committee (Hemlock Sawdust Days). One of her most impactful roles is leading and organizing the Auction Barn, which raises funds for Hemlock High School Senior Scholarships, helping students take their next steps after graduation.

Why She Chose to Serve

When asked what inspired her to join the Board of Education, Kimberly keeps it simple and sincere:

“I wanted to learn more about our schools and get involved when I could.”

That curiosity—and willingness to step in and help—has defined her approach to leadership.

Community Strength and Shared Challenges

Kimberly believes one of Hemlock’s greatest strengths is its people.

“We have a great supportive community when it comes to our kids. Our greatest challenge is having the financial support where it’s needed. Knowing our community trusts this board and its decisions really makes Hemlock a great place to live and raise a family.”

She also reflects with pride on how the district navigated unprecedented challenges.

“Hemlock has been strong and ready to face the challenges of COVID-19 with face-to-face learning. I commend the parents, students, and our staff for doing an exceptional job. Huskie Pride at its best!”

A Moment of Huskie Pride

When asked about a moment from the past year that made her especially proud to be a Huskie, Kimberly points not to a single event, but to a consistent theme: resilience and togetherness. Watching students, staff, and families continue to show up for one another—whether through challenges, celebrations, or everyday school life—reinforces why she believes so strongly in Hemlock.

Thoughtful, dependable, and deeply invested in kids, Kimberly Hoeppner exemplifies what the Faces of Government series is all about: neighbors serving neighbors, guided by care, trust, and Huskie Pride.

Go, Huskies!
