Hemlock Public School District is inviting students, families, staff, and neighbors to lace up and join the Hemlock Sneakers Club, a new walking-and-wellness initiative designed to make movement easy, social, and fun across the Huskie community. Details and ongoing updates are available at hemlockps.com/page/walkers.

Board President Matthew Wesener added: “This is about opening our doors and inviting everyone—kids, parents, seniors, and staff—to share the same space and the same goal: better health. The Sneakers Club is a low-barrier way to strengthen community ties while making good use of our facilities.”

The launch builds on Hemlock’s expanding campus amenities, including upgraded athletic spaces and an upper deck, a three-lane walking track designed to support student training and community fitness throughout the year.

“As a small town with big opportunities, we want wellness to feel welcoming and attainable,” said Superintendent Dr. Don Killingbeck. “The Hemlock Sneakers Club gives our community a simple way to connect, de-stress, and build healthy routines—one step at a time.”

What the Hemlock Sneakers Club offers

  • Flexible, come-as-you-are walking meetups. Regular opportunities for families, staff, and neighbors to walk together and encourage one another (the schedule is consistent, but nighttime walkers will need to check our athletic schedule).

  • A welcoming space for every pace. Whether you’re logging steps, warming up before practice, or catching up with friends, the club meets walkers where they are—no special gear (non-marking rubber soled shoes are required) or experience required.

  • Community connection. The club complements Hemlock’s broader effort to create healthy, vibrant spaces for students and, in this case, shares with our district residents.
