MS Frankenmuth

A group of eleven Hemlock Middle School Student Council members recently traveled to Frankenmuth to attend the Middle Level Liftoff, a student leadership event sponsored by the Michigan Association of Secondary School Principals (MASSP). The event brought together middle school leaders from across the state to explore the idea that leadership isn’t one-size-fits-all.

Throughout the day, students engaged in hands-on activities, team challenges, and reflection exercises as part of the Leadership Lab, a space designed to help them discover and develop their own leadership styles. The theme encouraged participants to think creatively, solve problems collaboratively, and reflect on how their individual strengths can make a positive impact in their schools.

“The Middle Level Liftoff was an incredible opportunity for our student leaders to learn, connect, and grow,” said Student Council Advisor Jeremy Stedry. “They came away with new ideas and renewed energy to bring back to Hemlock Middle School. It was inspiring to watch them step outside their comfort zones and really embrace what it means to lead with purpose.”

Principal Lori Gensch added, “At Hemlock, we believe in giving students authentic opportunities to lead and make their voices heard. This event provided the perfect environment for our Student Council members to build confidence, collaborate with peers from other districts across Michigan, and reflect on how they can strengthen our school community.”

The Hemlock Middle School Student Council looks forward to implementing what they learned from the Middle Level Liftoff as they continue to plan events, promote school spirit, and lead by example throughout the school year.
