The halls of Hemlock Middle School are once again filled with energy, laughter, and learning as students returned to kick off a new school year. Principal Lori Gensch shared her excitement about the positive start, noting the enthusiasm and resilience of both students and staff.
“Our students have brought the building back to life,” said Principal Gensch. “The joy of seeing them reconnect with friends, meet new faces, and dive right into learning is what makes this work so rewarding.”
The transition to middle school can feel daunting for incoming 5th graders, but Hemlock’s newest Huskies have quickly settled into their new routines. Teachers and staff have been impressed by their eagerness to learn, their willingness to try new things, and their ability to adapt to the increased independence and responsibility that come with middle school life.
A key reason for this smooth transition has been the leadership of the 6th–8th graders. Veteran students have stepped up in remarkable ways, modeling positive behavior, guiding their younger peers through the first weeks of school, and showing kindness to those who are new to Hemlock. The welcoming spirit and teamwork on display have created a school culture where every student feels seen, supported, and valued.
“We couldn’t be prouder of how our students are taking care of each other,” Gensch added. “Our older students are leading with heart, and that makes all the difference for our younger ones who are finding their way.”
The excitement in the classrooms, hallways, and athletic fields signals a promising year ahead at Hemlock Middle School. With a strong sense of community and a shared commitment to learning and growth, the Huskies are off to a truly successful start.
