Hemlock Public School District proudly announces that Joan Hoffman, STEM teacher at Hemlock Middle School, has been recognized with the 2024 STEM STAR Award by Saginaw Valley State University and the MiSTEM Network – East Central Michigan Region. This prestigious award acknowledges Hoffman's outstanding contributions to STEM education and her dedication to fostering a love for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) among the district's youth.

The STEM STAR Award is part of the 5th annual recognition program by Saginaw Valley State University and the MiSTEM Network – East Central Michigan Region, celebrating educators who demonstrate excellence in STEM education. As a STEM STAR Award winner, Joan Hoffman will be recognized for her achievements at the annual STEM Teacher Dinner on March 20, 2024, at Saginaw Valley State University. In addition to the accolade, she will receive a STEM STAR award and a $250 grant, provided by MiSTEM Region 10, to enhance STEM education in her classroom.

Superintendent Don Killingbeck expressed his congratulations, stating, "Joan Hoffman's commitment to STEM education is exemplary. This award is a well-deserved recognition of her dedication to cultivating a passion for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics in our students. We are proud to have her on our team."

Joan's involvement as a FIRST Lego League Robotics coach has been instrumental in the recent qualification of both our teams for the State Championship. This remarkable accomplishment is a testament to her incredible support and guidance. Her dedication and expertise have been pivotal in nurturing the talents of our young enthusiasts.

Board President Matt Wesener congratulated Joan Hoffman, stating, "Joan's dedication to inspiring students in STEM subjects is commendable. Her commitment to innovative teaching aligns with our district's values, and we are proud to see her efforts recognized with the STEM STAR Award."
