Toys for Tots

The Middle School Student Council stands firm on the principle of fostering a spirit of volunteering and reaching out to various community organizations. At the core of our mission is instilling in our students the awareness of a broader world beyond our immediate community and empowering them to contribute positively to it. Embodying this ethos, the HMS Student Council has proudly aligned with the US Marines Toys for Tots foundation for three consecutive years, embodying our commitment to service and impact.

Toys for Tots holds a significant legacy, originating from the vision of Major Bill Hendricks in
1947, and since then, it has remained an integral program within local US Marines chapters.
Our initial foray into supporting Toys for Tots in 2021 was marked by tremendous success as
our council orchestrated fundraising endeavors within our school, amassing a generous sum of
over $2000.

This year, our approach evolved, pivoting from monetary donations to gathering toys and winter
apparel for children in need. It was a decision rooted in the understanding that tangible
contributions directly benefit the young recipients, ensuring joy and warmth during the holiday
season. To culminate this effort, two of our dedicated Student Council representatives, Bo
Galbraith and Willow Rapin, took the initiative to meet with Bill Waterman, a respected local
coordinator for the US Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots program. They proudly presented
the collected donations, symbolizing our school's commitment to making a difference in the lives of those less fortunate.

This collaboration with Toys for Tots not only cements a meaningful partnership with a revered
organization but also serves as an inspiring demonstration to our student body. It illustrates that
through collective acts of kindness, no matter how small, we possess the potential to effectuate positive change in our world. As a Student Council, we are immensely proud to play a role in this transformative narrative and remain steadfast in our dedication to community service and outreach.
