HPSD Board Members

As January marks the School Board Recognition Month, Hemlock Public School District proudly stands with 541 local and 56 intermediate school districts statewide in expressing heartfelt gratitude to community volunteers who have shown unwavering commitment to public education.

Describing the depth of their commitment, Superintendent Don Killingbeck states, “The role of a school board member is often said to be the ‘toughest volunteer job in America.’ Despite the challenges, Michigan’s public school board members selflessly dedicate innumerable hours to meetings, school events, and thorough preparation for pivotal decisions. Additionally, many continually seek professional development to navigate the ever-evolving educational landscape. To put it in perspective, board members across Michigan have cumulatively committed over 7,500 hours to training and professional advancement. Their dedication shines brightly, always prioritizing the continued success of our schools and students.”

Public education stands at a crossroads of immense challenges and unparalleled potential. The school board members of Hemlock Public School District have been instrumental in crafting policies and making critical decisions that lay the foundation for our educational future. Their purview extends to overseeing a yearly budget of $15 million, ensuring the growth and well-being of 1200+ students, managing 150+ employees, and maintaining four school buildings.

Superintendent Killingbeck adds, “We stand united with educators and community members in applauding these stalwarts of education. Their contributions transcend regular duties - they are the torchbearers of vision and leadership in student accomplishments, academic programs, district funds, and infrastructure. By championing public education, they uphold the very essence of our democracy.”

In collaboration with the Michigan Association of School Boards and fellow school districts, Hemlock Public School District is set to celebrate these board members' invaluable service. A formal tribute is slated during the regular monthly board meeting on January 8th.
