In an impressive display of talent and innovation, Hemlock Middle School’s Robotics Team, BrainSTEM, clinched victory at a District event in Goodrich, Michigan on December 9. The team made it through qualifying matches ranked #1 out of 36 teams. In the playoffs, the team remained undefeated to win the championship. The event drew teams from Troy, Brighton, Auburn Hills, Howell, Ortonville, West Bloomfield, and other communities known as engineering powerhouses in southeast Michigan.

BrainSTEM also won the “Think Award” which is particularly significant as it recognizes a team’s ability to effectively document their journey and apply critical thinking skills to solve engineering challenges.

“This victory is not just a win for the team but a proud moment for the entire school,” said lead mentor Marcos Rodriguez, expressing immense pride in the team’s achievement. “Our students have worked tirelessly, and this success reflects their passion for robotics and their commitment to excellence.”

The team’s journey has been filled with challenges, learning, and growth. Their ability to work as a cohesive unit, supporting and learning from each other, has been key to their success. Parents, teachers, and fellow students have been incredibly supportive, providing the team with the encouragement needed to excel.

Looking ahead, Hemlock Middle School’s Robotics Team is now gearing up for the State Championships next weekend. With boosted confidence and a track record of success, they are excited and ready to take on the next challenge.

“We congratulate our young champions on this incredible achievement and wish them the best of luck at the State Championships,” said Tom Lockwood, Hemlock’s STEM Advocate. “Their journey is a brilliant example of what can be achieved with hard work, dedication, and a love for science and technology.”
