Thanksgiving

Echoing the warmth and community spirit of a Norman Rockwell painting, the Hemlock Public School District proudly hosted its 52nd Annual Senior Citizen Thanksgiving Dinner on Friday, November 10th. This cherished event, a tradition since 1971, honors the senior citizens for their ongoing support and contributions to the district's youth.

Superintendent Killingbeck shared his enthusiasm, saying, “This event is a highlight of our calendar. It's a wonderful occasion to engage with our senior citizens over a meal and witness the strong community support for our elders.”

Each attendee was welcomed with a thoughtfully crafted placement at their seat, created by an elementary student. The dedicated Hemlock Public School District food service team whipped up a feast for the 238 seniors who attended, while students from the middle and high school graciously served our honored guests. The atmosphere was further enhanced by the gentle piano melodies performed by Hemlock High School student Sophia Hauffe.

While notable figures such as Oprah, Martha Stewart, and various political dignitaries, including the Governor, have been invited in the past, this year's event was emceed by event coordinator, Elementary Principal, and Athletic Director Cory Snyder. Pastor Clayton Beck from Hemlock’s Well Church blessed the meal and the attendees.

Board President Matt Wesener reflected on the dinner's importance, stating, “This dinner is a testament to our community's strength and unity. It's an occasion that not only honors our senior citizens but also reinforces the Hemlock Public School District's commitment to values of gratitude and togetherness.”

The event was a resounding success, with generous door prizes donated by local businesses, organizations, and individuals, leaving each guest with a sense of appreciation and community spirit.
