Hemlock Public School District, in collaboration with Richland Township, is pleased to announce a significant step towards bolstering the safety and well-being of its students and the wider community. Beginning mid-February, a dedicated School Resource Officer (SRO) will be stationed on campus every school day. This initiative is a testament to both organizations' commitment to creating a secure and nurturing educational environment.
The presence of a School Resource Officer on campus every day when school is in session represents a proactive approach to not only ensure safety but also to foster a positive relationship between students and law enforcement.

Duties and Responsibilities of the School Resource Officer:
Ensuring Safety: The SRO will be primarily responsible for maintaining a secure environment for students, staff, and visitors. This includes routine patrols and addressing any immediate safety concerns.
Conflict Resolution: The officer will play a crucial role in mediating conflicts among students and preventing bullying, ensuring a peaceful and respectful school atmosphere.
Law Enforcement Education: The SRO will conduct educational sessions on topics such as drug and alcohol awareness, cyber safety, and the consequences of criminal behavior, empowering students with knowledge to make lawful and ethical decisions.
Emergency Preparedness: The officer will lead drills and provide training for students and staff on how to respond in emergency situations, such as lockdowns or natural disasters.
Coaching and Mentoring: Serving as a mentor, the SRO will offer guidance and support to students, helping them navigate personal and academic challenges.
Community Engagement: By participating in school events and activities, the SRO will work towards building a strong, trust-based relationship between the students, the school, and the local law enforcement.
