Middle School

Hemlock, MI – The Hemlock Public School District is focused on continual improvement. As a teaching and learning institution, our focus is on making the best education experience possible for students, staff, and families. With this in mind, Hemlock Middle School is much like those drastic personal makeovers you see on television. Hemlock Middle School started the summer looking one way and finished with an entirely new look.

Middle School Principal Josh Chase said, “We believe in focusing on the whole child.  Our improvements make our school environment more comfortable which in turn translates into learning.  We also take student safety very seriously and we are very happy with our parking lot upgrade.  We appreciate our community and it’s unending support.”

The makeover, which actually started in the spring included, minor room renovations to 8 classrooms with paint, carpet, and some technology upgrades, hallway carpet, and a black box theatre, cafeteria makeover, parking lot, and more.

“There is obviously more work for us to do, some things are just timing, and other things may just be out of our fiscal reach for now, but our focus is on making the best possible learning experience for everyone,” said Dr. Don Killingbeck, Superintendent.

Many of the ideas for improvements come from students and staff as the district has done a number of things over the years to ensure that these voices are heard through focus groups and listening tours. Currently, students and staff are talking most about the cafeteria and upgrades to the classrooms.  The students appreciate the attention to making learning more comfortable. Huskie Pride shines through at an even bigger level.
