Hemlock Gives Back

Hemlock Public School District is busy with many charity collections this time of year.

Madeline Curtiss and Kelly Ludlum, MS Student Council Advisors and teachers, hosted a food drive in a one-week span and students came through with over 600 donated items.  These items will be distributed to families in our local community to ensure they have a better holiday season.

Madeline Curtiss said, “The students really came forward with the can drive, especially since we made it a competition between middle school grade levels! It was a great way to give back to those in need.”

Middle School National Junior Honor Society students had a successful penny drive and earned monies to donate to a Hemlock student to go towards medical expenses during treatment at the University of Michigan Hospital.

Diane Mulvaney, High School Student Leading Students Advisor, is hosting a Toys for Tots drive. She said, “Students who bring in new and unwrapped toys are entered to win prizes, such as, movie tickets, Slurpees, and more. This is a fun way to motivate high school students, and they feel so good about giving back.”

Amongst these charitable collections, there are coat and mitten/hat drives and books for the needy project located in both elementary buildings and the middle school.
