Supreme Court

Dear Hemlock Huskie Pack:

We at Hemlock Public School District appreciate all of the support and cooperation we have experienced from all facets of our school community.

Recently, the Supreme Court of Michigan ruled that Governor Whitmer did not have the authority to continually extend her authority beyond the end of April. This calls into question many executive orders.

Some of you have reached out and begun to question what this means for schools and particular what this means for our school district.

The answer to that question is not as simple as reading the court ruling. Many of the things we have done related to the Governor's Executive Orders are also recommendations or requirements by the Health Department or the Michigan Department of Education.

Right now, we will be following our Return to Learn Plan until further notice. To be clear, in terms of students and masks, we will follow the same protocols we have from the start of school outlined in our return to learn plan.

This plan has helped guide us for the last six weeks and kept our school family safe. Over the next week or so, schools will receive additional guidance from the MDE, Health Department, and likely new legislation.

As we move forward and children return back to school tomorrow, Tuesday (10/6), please remember to continue to complete a health screener with your child before sending them to school everyday and keep sick children home.

If you should have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact the central office at 989.642.5282

All the best,

Don Killingbeck

Superintendent of Schools
