K. C. Ling Hosts STEAM Night

Hemlock, MI – Recently, K. C. Ling Elementary held their annual Family STEAM Night and had our best turn-out to date.  MTSS teachers Stephanie Dunton, Missy Little, and Emily Schmidt were largely responsible for organizing this free event for families.

Those that attended STEAM night were able to participate in a plethora of activities run by several Hemlock Public School District staff members and parent volunteers.  All the activities centered around Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math.    Some of these opportunities included the creation of circuits and catapult launchers, along with coding robots such as Spheros.

In addition to these events, the High School Robotics Program was in attendance showcasing their ball-throwing robot.  This was a huge hit with the families.  The robotics team also provided their popular pin maker for attendees to create a keepsake to take home with them.

To top it all off, families were allowed to take a trip to outer space as they visited the mobile planetarium.  This was a new attraction to STEAM Night this year.

Teacher Stephanie Dunton stated, “It was so rewarding to see the excitement on the students’ faces when they first walked into the gym and saw all the activities awaiting them.  It definitely made all the hard work and preparation worthwhile.”

Principal Gensch said, “Each year this event gets bigger and better.  We were excited to see so many families in attendance in this night of hands-on fun.”
