We have all heard about some of the roads and bridges here in Michigan that require repair, but to a young 3rd-grade student trying to get to his grandparent’s house, this was more than a bridge in need of a repair.  A then, 8-year old Nathan Jarabeck, took the approach to help get the bridge fixed, and to keep his grandparents and community safe by writing a letter to Senator Ken Horn.

In his letter to Senator Horn, Nathan explained how the bridge on Chapin Road was “dangerous and had been closed.”  He then wrote to ask for Senator Horn to see that the bridge is made, “safe, again.”

Senator Horn wrote Nathan back and thanked him for, “caring so much for his family and his community.”

Nathan is now in 5th-grade, and partly due to his letter, the bridge is repaired. Nathan was invited to the ribbon-cutting ceremony and got to meet Senator Horn!

5th-grade middle school teacher Shawnie Bremer, shared this of her student, “Nathan is the perfect example showing good citizenship and being involved in the local community, as well as, truly believing in the core value of common good!”

He helped the community who was truly impacted by the local bridge being unsafe and in definite need of construction. Nathan’s caring demeanor makes us proud to have him in our Huskie Pack!
