Basketball Golf Outing

Recently, the Hemlock High School boys’ and girls’ basketball programs hosted their annual golf outing at Valley View Farm Golf Course in Saginaw. The event was a success as 35 teams (140 golfers) enjoyed some golf, perfect weather, and fellowship throughout the day. The teams at the outing consisted of former players, coaches, community members and alumni, as well as parents and relatives. The participants ranged from avid golfers to hackers just trying to enjoy a day out while supporting the basketball programs. Not only was a great time had by all, but the outing was the most profitable basketball golf outings ever.

The winning team of Bob Fiting, Tony Warner, Craig Wilsey and Zach Turner who shot a 13 under par score of 59. Second place went to a team of alumni basketball players which included JV Coach Tony Lyvere, Jeremy Buxman, Justin Buxman, and Justin Jackson who shot an 11 under par score of 61. Don Burdo was the winner of the longest drive contest for the men while Courtney Friedle won the same honor for the women. Jeremy Schultz won the award for the closest to the pin on the par 3 11th hole. Mike Murphy was the winner of the Turner Concrete cornhole challenge.  Keith Green won the Putt for Paige (Baird) Putting Contest! All of the proceeds from that putting contest ($520) will be sent to the Baird family for medical expenses as their daughter Paige continues to make big strides in her rehabilitation at Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital in Grand Rapids!  Go Paige!

Thanks to the many sponsors and participants, the boys’ and girls’ basketball programs were able to raise the funds necessary to enhance the experience of playing basketball at Hemlock High School.  A large portion of the proceeds from this outing will be used to purchase a Vertimax v8 to better help train all of the athletes at Hemlock HS. Proceeds will also be used for basketball supplies, team camp entry fees, training equipment, team apparel for the 2019-2020 season, and additional expenses for team functions.

We would like to thank all of the golfers who participated in the outing as well as the players, coaches, and volunteers who helped to run and organize the outing. In addition, we’d like to give a special thank you to the sponsors and prize contributors who made it possible to run a successful outing.  My special thanks to David and Sarah Krueger for their generosity in donating 50/50 winnings back to the basketball programs! The event sponsors and prize contributors are listed in the golf outing program. Please support your local merchants!!

Thank you for helping to make the event a success! We know that our teams will enjoy the benefits of your generosity!  Go Huskies!
